Our Services

We help whisky lovers to buy, sell, mature and bottle casks of Scotch whisky. As an independent broker, we facilitate the buying and selling of casks of premium Scottish whiskies, whether these are new make spirits or mature whiskies. At Wagner Spirits, we provide end-to-end cask services with global reach. Our heart and headquarters are here in Scotland, but our footprint extends worldwide.

Cask Management

Acting on your instructions as our client, we source and purchase precisely the whisky you wish to buy. We can also provide advice at every stage of the process:

Connecting buyers with sellers
Facilitating purchases
Understanding the process
Guidance on building a portfolio

Due diligence is vital in any cask purchase or sale. We ensure that your casks are correctly and indisputably assigned to streamline any future sale. In the case of whisky cask purchases, we specialise in investigating and verifying title to casks.

When the time comes to sell your cask(s), we can assist with finding a buyer. Just as we do with whisky cask purchases, we can facilitate each stage of the selling process.

We protect your valuable casks through the provision of secure storage facilities and specialist transport services. We monitor all the casks entrusted to us for cracks and potential leaks, and to ensure that evaporation rates are within accepted parameters – that is, that they do not go beyond the traditional angels’ share.

We keep you in the loop regarding the status, health and quality of the whisky in your casks through scheduled or ad hoc (on request) assessments of its degree of maturation. Armed with this information, you will be better placed to make disposal or other decisions.

Re-gauging is an essential part of your whisky ownership journey. We recommend that it be carried out by our experts every three years for whiskies aged from 5 to 15 years old, and annually thereafter. Re-gauging provides you with vital metrics:

Bulk litres (the volume of whisky in each a cask) – from which evaporation rates can be calculated

Alcohol % – this must remain above 40% ABV in order for the spirit in the casks to be legally classified as whisky. Alcohol evaporates at a faster rate than the other components of whisky, so it is especially important to always be aware of this metric.

Re-gauged litres of alcohol (RLA) – a function of the bulk volume multiplied by the RLA

This information will be required by any prospective buyer of your cask, and we can ensure that it is collected timeously and accurately.

We can request and supply cask samples as required and ship these in full compliance with local laws and customs regulations. It’s all part of our commitment to transparency and traceability.

We provide expert advice on distilling and bottling, so that you can decide whether this is the right route for you. In collaboration with our expert bottling partners here in Scotland, we can arrange for your cask to be either bottled or sold onward.

Taxes and Compliance
